CNC Router CNC Weekend Projects

Sometimes all a hobbyist wants to do is spend the weekend alone with their badog CNC router. For some people the weekend is the only time you have to work with your machine. While big long-term projects are fun it can be just as rewarding to do something small that you can wrap up before you have to get back to your work life on Monday. When I say small I do literally mean small since one weekend is not enough time to make anything larger than a project you could easily carry around in your hands.

Different people will want to work on different types of projects so we will start with projects that you will be able to get some use out of around your home, specifically items that can be used in the kitchen. A weekend is not going to be enough time to put new doors on all of your cabinets but you can make a few basic items that can boost your productivity when you need to cook. Luckily most of the things you use in the kitchen are small so that leaves your options fairly open. One of the simplest projects is a knife block. All you need is a block of wood and knives to go in it. Depending on how much time you have you could do something basic or make the work a little more customized. You can apply decorations to the sides of your piece or you can measure your knives and make sure each one will be a perfect fit in the finished project. If you do not have many knives leave some empty space; you can always cut more holes in it later as you buy more knives. Other projects to make could include a bowl, a cutting board, a spice rack or anything else you need. Deciding what items you need to add to your kitchen (or that your wife thinks you need to add) will make picking one of these projects easy.

If there are parts of your home that need organizing you can make a tray to hold your items so that you do not have everything just lying wherever it was thrown. A block of wood can be made into a little tray with holes that are the perfect size for whatever you plan to store in it. If you want to dedicate one of the sections to your TV remote measure your remote so that it will be have a snug fit in your tray. Just do not make things too snug; you do need to have enough wiggle room to get the items back out without flipping the tray upside-down. A good spot for one of these trays would be on top of your dresser so that you can put your keys, wallet, phone and whatever else you carry around in it at the end of the day when you are getting out of your work clothes.

Some homes do not need anything like these first two projects because they are already running smoothly. In that case you can make a decoration instead. Signs are fairly simple to make and can fill multiple uses depending on what you want your sign to say. You could hang a sign by your front door that says “Welcome to our home” or you could be more humorous and have it say something like “Remember, as far as anyone knows we are a nice, normal family”. Using lettering is not required on a sign either; you could make a picture, either 2D or 3D, to hang on the wall instead. The options you have for sign-making are really only limited to your imagination since a CNC router is capable of putting pretty much anything you can see in your mind onto the wood.
